God it’s actually making me uncomfortable

No I am uncomfortable. As a color deficient person I almost never see the…

MoCCA Fest was amazing and I’m poop tired but also brimming with joy and warm fuzzy feelings from comics friendship and bonding over cool things and sharing each other’s cool comics and telling each other about each other’s cool comics AHH!!

Thank you everyone who came to support SVA’s Cartoon Allies booth, and all those who dropped by Papercut Tavern to check out all the rad stuff some members of the comics collective were selling. I’ve met such great people this weekend, be it excited prospective cartooning students, or people who love the work at the Papercut Tavern table.

If you’re in the city on Friday, May 2nd, please check out Fresh Meat, SVA’s very own comics fair which has been running annually for over a decade now, showcasing current undergraduate work from illustration and cartooning students. I will post more information about that event soon!

Again, THANK YOU to all those that dropped by MoCCA Festival!!! Ya’ll are the coolest beans!! <3

A sketch that turned into indulgent Crow’s Blood fashion doodle. This is my current idea for the royal attire for Crows. They’re a bit more blingy than their neighboring Cranes, who prefer more simplistic lines and large patterns over the nitpicky embroidery and jewelry of the Crows.

Shoulder pad/sleeve inspiration from this gorgeous photo [here].

This MoCCA Festival I’ll be selling this 18x24” full color poster of a board game based on the young cartoonist’s life, heavily based on my own experiences (meaning there are also plenty of made-up events based on friend’s experiences).

The board game IS really playable - you can cut out the spinner and make markers and everything - but pretty straightforward haha. Still hoping people can have fun with it and actually cut it up though! I will be including a pin so you can put the spinner together without needing to purchase anything. Only equipment required is a pair of scissors!

INTRODUCING - ROOKERY: URBAN LEGENDS & MYTHS

They can’t be true - but are they?

Balanced beautifully on the edge of the fantastic and the feasible, urban legends and myths capture our imagination and linger with us in a way more outrageous tales cannot.
One chooses what to believe, what conclusions to draw, what to fear - or to revere.

Rookery is a collective of young cartoonists and illustrators formed at the School of Visual Arts. This volume contains myths and legends both invented and interpreted.

Featuring the work of 16 individual artists, this 40+ page full color comic & illustration anthology will be available at MoCCA fest in NYC, April 5-6!

Hey everyone!

A bunch of people came together to make this anthology happen, and I’m really excited for its debut at MoCCA Festival! Amanda and I helped compile the book, and above is a sample of the piece I contributed, based on the Taiwanese folk tale of The Tigress Witch or “Hu Gu Po”.

If you can make it to the festival, you’ll be able to see Rookery on several tables, including the School of Visual Arts’ Cartoon Allies table located at tables A10 - A11! Keep your eyes peeled~

Woops this should’ve been reblogged on this blog instead! Above is me. Swing on by if you can make it!

"When the Time Comes" - Ink on Bristol w/ Digital ColorsI’m quite happy with how this turned out! It was very difficult forcing myself to keep to a limited palette instead of picking “daylight colors” and the entire color wheel but I think I did okay. Also, Tropic of the Sea by Satoshi Kon really got me even more excited about mermaids and I read it right before making this comic so there was definitely inspiration. Check out that book if you can because the way he inks and tones water is mind-blowing. I drew my witchsona today instead of hourly comics :> He’s a scruffy genderqueer who doesn’t give a crap about people’s expectations for anything, be it his gender or even his magical craft. He can do some healing magic but doesn’t really like to talk about it. His hair and feet are filthy, he walks around barefoot everywhere and prefers the indoors. His crow practically lives on his head and his kitty is a grey sphynx. I imagine he forgets to cut his hair for months or even years at a time, and it often ends up down to his chest. He wears lip gloss for no one but himself.

One panel from a small folded paper comic I just made :> Might take photos of the actual comic when I make them. I had fun drawing the cherubim, if you can tell it’s a cherubim. I tried to add as many detail elements that the description of a cherubim has into that circle but not everything is shown. According to the description there is a human head facing forward, and a lion, ox, and eagle head facing the other directions, and they’re studded with eyes and have four wings and it’s cray.

Got really excited about a story idea today and blabbed about it to frenz and boyf and sketched it on the train ignoring the fact that I cannot focus on a fixed point on moving vehicles of transportation (no reading, no writing, no drawing) without feeling sick so by the time I was putting in the window I felt like I was about to burffff. Worth it.
